Indexing in the top search engine providers is easy and helps your search results greatly, I will reference Google, Bing (MSN), Yahoo and AOL Search!
There are roughly 176 search engines that are active today. You really only need to worry about the main 4 I am referencing in this article.
To check if your site is indexed in Google use this in your web browser: cache:www.YourSite.com
Links to Submit your Site:
- You will have to register with Google webmaster tools, this is free and it also offers very valuable website SEO tools.
- Yahoo does have a general free submission, its the top link on the page which routes you to Bing Webmaster Tools. This will submit your site to both bing and yahoo search engines.
- Yahoo does offer paid feature listing, they will include you in the top search results for a monthly fee!
- Register with Bing Webmaster Tools to submit your site, also submits it to Yahoo.
- Submitting to AOL Search will have you register your website with dmoz.org directory, this also submits you to multiple partners site of theirs.
Keep in mind that submitting your site is just a very small step in Search Engine Optimization! These search engine providers get hundreds of requests daily, your submission will take roughly 3 weeks to 3 months to be indexed by all companies. Google takes a month, Yahoo about 3 weeks, Bing took 2 months and I am still waiting for AOL Search on 1 of my Sites.
Submitting to these search engines requires certain credentials from the user (You) or your Webmaster. Somen require you to have editing privileges in the sites html coding. They do this just to make sure you are an official owner/webmaster for the site you are submitting, or that you contain rights to the sites content.
There is a wonderful tool I use for 2 of my sites, it's called Search Engine Visibility. I get it threw GoDaddy which is my hosting provider. This program scans your site and provides a full break down of SEO performance. If you get this program threw GoDaddy and use there hosting service it will submit all your content to all major search engines, update and edit SEO content for you, etc. I believe its 29.99 for a year and they now have website builders for 1 dollar to 12.49. I like it because they offer so many add ons to make things easier.
